Start at the Jasper Townsite, where your guide will meet you, walk the 1.6kms to the Old Fort Point Trailhead and learn some interesting tidbits about Jasper from a local's point of view. Arrive at the Old Fort Point and complete the 3.5km loop trail with your knowledgeable guide giving you interpretive information during the trip.
This trail is located on a bedrock hill 130m above the river valley. There is excellent scenery at the top of this trail. On a clear day hikers can see, the town of Jasper, Mount Edith Cavell, The Whistlers, The Miette River Valley, The Athabasca River, The Victoria Cross Moutnain Range, Lac Beauvert, Jasper Park Lodge, The Colin Range, Signal Mountain, Mount Tekarra, Mount Hardisty and Mount Kerkeslin!! Not bad for a 3.5km hike!!
There is also a very good chance of seeing wildlife on this trail, especially big horn sheep. This is prime habitat for these impressive four legged mountaineers. Your guide is trained in what to do if there are wildlife encounters and will be carrying bear spray.
This hike is suitable for all skill levels and as long as you can walk for 4-5hours. There are a couple of steeper sections, but they are short and worth the view.
After the hike return to town with your guide, and then go reward yourself with a nice tea or coffee at one of our local cafes.
