Guide Profiles

Christian Roy

Hi, here is a little information about me. I've been a lover of the outdoors for many years, and involved in recreational outdoor activities including mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking, canoeing and mountain biking.  I decided to turn my love of the outdoors into a career in 2006 when I began working for Maligne Tours as a boat driver/tour guide.  During my time with Maligne Tours I started developing knowledge of the natural and human history of the Maligne Valley and The Rocky Mountains.

Being a very active person, I decided to upgraded my skills and become a hiking and backpacking guide in 2007 and I've never looked back. Working in the National Parks requires several qualifications.  Since then, I've completed the Interpretive Guides  Association Professional Guiding Level, and also the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (A.C.M.G.) Hiking Guide program.  I also have a wilderness first responder course that involves 90 hours of first aid and emergency training.

I've been guiding hiking trips for the past eight years, and have developed my own unique and interactive guiding style. My appreciation of life and fascination with nature will show in my presentations as will my extensive knowledge of the area. I've developed ability to take my knowledge and deliver it in an understandable and fun way to guests of all ages. Being both peaceful and active, I've chosen the middle path.   Balancing work life with love of nature, I'm always happy to share with others the amazing outdoor experiences available in the Canadian Rockies.

Hi There! I wanted to tell you a little bit about myself before you come on a tour with me! I've been passionate about the outdoors from a very early age. I'm fulfilling one of my dreams by working as a professional guide.

My guiding career started in 2006 when I began attending the Outdoor Adventure Program at Algonquin College in Pembroke Ontario. I completed this program, graduating with multiple guiding certifications and practical experience. Some of my certifications include my Wilderness First Responder (a 90 hour first aid course) my Apprentice Interpretive Guide Certification, which allows me to work in Canada's National Parks and certifications through Paddle Canada.

After graduating this program, I attended Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops BC and completed a BTM in Adventure Tourism. (Yes you can major in Adventure!!!) Continuous education is very important to me, I spend a part of each off season improving and upgrading my skills and education. I completed my Association of Canadian Mountain Guides Assistant Hiking Guide Certification! This allows me to take you out into the mountain wilderness and it is an internationally recognized certification. I'm also working towards completing my Interpretive Guides Association Professional Interpreter Level and more university courses relating to my profession as a guide and the outdoors.

In the past I have worked as a Canoe Guide in Algonquin Park and as a Boat Driver/Tour Guide on Maligne Lake. In the winter I currently travel to New Zealand and work as a guide in a geothermal park. As well as working as a guide I also spend a great amount of my free time participating in outdoor activities such as canoeing, trekking, scrambling, ski touring and ice climbing. I have an educational guiding style and I enjoy introducing people to the outdoors. I am very passionate about teaching people about the regional history, wildlife, and geology. I also finds it very rewarding to help people learn new ideas and to develop new skills. I hope to meet you soon and that we can go on an adventure together here in Jasper!
