Last week Chris and I headed for some warmer weather and went to hike the Juan De Fuca Trail (not wanda fuca) on the Western Coast of Vancouver Island. The island is one of my favourite places in the world and if I didn't live in beautiful Jasper I think I would want to live there. The spring is a good time to go on vacation from Jasper, we can wait for the warmer weather to come with summer.
Its a little funny that when Chris and I aren't working we can still be found doing what we do for work on our own free time. This trail was a little different from what we get in Jasper as it has a lot more up and down and is quite muddy. We were lucky with the weather, no rain for the four days that we were out, which is rare for that area. The average rainfall on that part of Vancouver Island is four metres a year! This was a good hike to get our season going and get us back in shape. Not too challenging, but not too easy either.
We did get to see some ocean life that we don't have in Jasper. The morning of our third day there was an epic seal battle close to shore that was quite interesting to watch. There was also a variety of slugs, bugs, birds, and a mink that we were able to observe on our trek.
This trip was a lot of fun. If you want to do something like it in Jasper let us know!
